Foxes and Brake Damage

Foxes are a bit of a pest in the city; put rubbish bags out for the dustmen at night and you risk littering your street, and they often attack cats and keep you awake with screaming, especially in the summer months.

Yet it seems that the normal annoyance could take a sinister turn for the worst if experts are to be believed, as it seems fox cubs have taken a liking to the taste of brake fluid meaning that they are nibbling on the underneath of our vehicles.

A couple discovered this problem after finind debris on the road under where they park their car, and then the brake pad light coming on on their dashboard. They took their car to the mechanics, and the damaged parts were sent off to wildlife experts, who likened them to teeth marks made by a juvenile fox.

It has become apparent that the young foxes now know how to find the fluid that they have come to like the taste of, which could cause catastrophic problems for car owners in the UK.

Experts believe that the cubs will have learnt these behaviours from vixens who bring back discarded objects like leather gloves and old boots to the den for the cubs to play with. Foxes often seek warmth under our cars and have likened the rubber to their toys.

This isn’t the first occasion of vandalism by animals after earlier this year a police investigation was launched after brake cables were vandalised all over Swindon, for it to be realised it was the work of grey squirrels.
